Lucca's festive season officially kicks off on Saturday, November 25th, as the dazzling lights of the majestic tree and enchanting art installations illuminate the city, with the mayor and official representatives in attendance. This year marks a special occasion as the festive glow will extend to every nook and cranny of the city, including Ponte a Moriano, Santa Maria a Colle, San Vito, and Santa Maria del Giudice.

Christmas markets won't grace the city until December 8th, when the iconic stalls will fill Piazza San Francesco, providing a delightful space for Christmas shopping, to find unique gifts for loved ones. Beneath the arches of Palazzo Pretorio, a bustling market featuring handcrafted nativity scenes and Christmas decorations awaits, accompanied by a captivating exhibition of nativities. At the same time, Piazza Napoleone will host the traditional winter fair from December 8th to January 6th.

Additional markets will spring to life in the Sant’Angelo district on December 2nd and 3rd and December 8th. In Ponte a Moriano, classic stalls showcasing clothing, delicacies, and thoughtful gift ideas will be ready for exploration from November 26th onward.

Christmas in Lucca wouldn't be complete without the iconic glow of the traditional illuminated tree. This year, the esteemed architect Michel Boucquillon is set to unveil a grand Christmas tree in Piazza San Michele, accompanied by a delightful projection on the cathedral featuring innovative installations crafted especially for the occasion.

But the festive spirit doesn't stop there in Lucca's historic center during the 2023 celebrations. Multimedia artist Francesco Zavattari will grace Piazza del Duomo with a second tree, a dazzling display of lights complementing the annual setups in the exits of San Frediano and San Martino.

Adding to the enchantment, local and international designer Emiliana Martinelli takes center stage in Piazza San Giovanni with her Christmas Forest, promising an even more magical experience than last year's. Yet, the pièce de résistance emerges in Piazza Napoleone—a towering 14-meter spectacle of lights and colors, a true embodiment of the deepest Christmas traditions.

And for a touch of holiday charm, a final fir tree will find its place on the ascent of the historic Caffè delle Mura, marking its inauguration on the first weekend of December.
