Lucca, is an October full of events

In Lucca there are numerous events scheduled for October. From art to antiques, from industrial paper to films, the rich schedule of appointments promises to satisfy the interests of a heterogeneous audience.
Let's find out together the main events scheduled.

MIAC - International Paper Industry Exhibition

The highly anticipated paper industry exhibition returns from 12 to 14 October. Now in its 28th edition this year, the event welcomes numerous paper mill technicians and converters of tissue paper.

The appointment is a precious opportunity for professionals to take stock of the state of the art of technologies for processing paper and cardboard.

During the three days, the schedule includes a series of free conferences focused on paperboard, tissue and energy issues.

But there is not only updating as a driving force of the fair. In fact, during the latter, business opportunities often arise, thanks also to the presence of industry leaders, who respond in large numbers to the event year after year. In fact, MIAC hosts about 250 exhibitors of processed paper and cardboard.

Planet Earth Festival

From 6 to 9 October Lucca hosts a festival dedicated to the theme of environmental sustainability. This is Pianeta Terra Festival - a revolution for sustainability.

The event is aimed at all those who care about the fate of the planet and are wondering about the possible paths to take to reduce the impact of humans on the earth's ecosystem.

At the first edition, Pianeta Terra Festival offers a rich multidisciplinary program of meetings and debates, from the climate to new development models, passing through the theme of energy and sustainable agriculture.

Conceived and designed by Editori Laterza, the festival is promoted by the Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca Foundation. The scientific director is Stefano Mancuso.

"Paper ships"

In the delightful setting of Palazzo Ducale, until 23 October it is possible to admire an exhibition that celebrates the long history of Italian emigration, which involved about 26 million Italians.

"Paper ships" is the event that tells stories of a community that has decided to leave their country of origin to go elsewhere. Through the exhibition of memorabilia, posters, photos and letters, you will retrace over 100 years of overseas travel, of those who have decided to change their lives and leave in search of greater fortune.

The title of the exhibition, Paper Ships, celebrates the display of finely elaborated color posters, which focus on the means that allowed Italians to make these journeys of hope.

The ditches of art

There is another Lucca to be discovered. It is not, in this case, the underground Lucca. It is in fact Via del Fosso, in the historic center, and its ditches.

Photographs, sculptures, ceramics and paintings will be at the service of the exhibition I Fossi dell'arte (now in its fourth edition), thanks to which it will be possible to discover the secrets of a little-known part of the city, but of certain historical and cultural interest and architectural.

In fact, one of the most productive districts of the city developed around Via del Fosso since the times of the Republic of Lucca. The increase in activities in the district is due to the conduit which, since 1376, provided the driving force for factories located throughout the town.

For this reason, along Via del Fosso, numerous silk workshops were opened by the locals, which contributed in a decisive way to making the city one of the richest in Europe, so much so as to earn the street the nickname "Silk Road".
